He was a grad student, in Journalism, and was convinced he was going to blow the lid off some huge story and become famous overnight. His enthusiasm appealed to Yvaine, and they quickly became a couple. They dated until the end of her senior year, and after she graduated, they moved in together. A year later, Roderick hadn't still finished his Master's degree, she was the only one earning a paycheck, while he was 'writing full-time,' convinced that his big break was right around the corner.
